Block at Standard Machine
Sep 26th
Today I dropped the block off at Standard Machine in Glendale. They have a good reputation around here. I am having them clean, magnaflux, and sonic check the block. When I dropped it off, the guy immediately noticed that this block has been magnafluxed before and showed me where they found a crack. Here is a picture of it. He said that this is in a non-stress area so it may be possible to tube it and use this block as long as they don’t find any serious cracks elsewhere on the block.

New 340 Block!
Sep 24th
I found a guy selling a couple of 340 blocks on Craigslist about a 2 hour drive from my place. So I called him up yesterday and after work headed out to meet him. After haggling with him a little bit I ended up taking the block home for $160, but it has no main caps. I measured the bores and they seemed to be around 4.07 (bored 30 over). The block looked fairly clean and there weren’t any obvious gouges or anything like that. Someone had taken the time to trim out all the flashing in the lifter valley area. Here are some pictures of it!
The VIN number on the block shows that it came out of a 1969 2 door Dodge Dart GTS Coupe built in Los Angeles.
