New MSD Distributor

April 14th, 2009 · No Comments

Andy, my long distance Crew Chief, has sent me a new MSD distributor to try out before I buy. So I spent most of the afternoon swapping out the Mopar Performance race distributor that I had. I took off the distributor cap and made a note of what direction the rotor was pointing in. Then I unbolted the clamp and pulled out the old distributor. When I put in the new MSD distributor I noticed the new rotor was about 30 degrees off of where the old one was. Very odd. So I just put the new cap on and put the new spark plug wires on. I rotated the new distributor so that the rotor was pointing right between the two spark plugs wires the old rotor was pointing between. I’ve taken some pictures of the swap and a video of me trying to start the motor up after the swap. You can hear it wanting to start but then dying. I need to advance the timing a bit before it will start normally. Since its getting late, I decided to hold off on that until tomorrow morning.
