More Progress on MSD Ignition…
I threaded the power leads through a grommet and hole in the firewall, and hooked up the negative power line to the engine block ground strap.
Then I threaded the positive power line around the engine bay and hooked it up to the live side of the starter relay.
To bypass the ballast resistor I just used a part that was in the MSD 6AL bag which was intended for a Ford or Chevy install and is not used for Chrysler installs. It’ll work. The ballast bypass is all cleaned up and taped away.
I disconnected the old magnetic pickup wires from the dizzy and taped it up.
Here I connected the +12 switched line to the red wire on the MSD. The +12 line is simply the old wire that used to be going to the + side of the coil. I also hooked up the orange and black coil wires. Everything is all taped up and zip-tied away. The white wire is unused so I taped up the end.
There are only 3 wires left to go for the 6AL… the green / purple magnetic pickup wires are to go to the dizzy, and the green line from the AutoMeter tachometer needs to go into the tachometer port on the right side of the MSD. I am going to have to drill a new hole for the green / purple lines – the instructions say to run them separately from the other wires and away from the coil / plug wires. No big deal.
I think I’ll be far along enough to try a test start tomorrow sometimes. Just cross your fingers and hope my car doesn’t burst into flames!
