A Brief Update…

I never did get around to doing the gallons per hour test – all my time up to now was consumed by figuring out what to get from Summit Racing. I just finally hit the submit order button and by Wednesday at the latest it’ll be early Christmas for me. In the meantime this weekend I am helping several friends with their cars at the 1320X event at Speedworld! I will be towing Beverly’s car there… it’s called "The Other Man".

Fuel Filter Changed Out

Tonight I changed out the fuel filter.  I had already gotten a replacement filter from Checker which is a Fram Racing HPGC1 filter.  But when I opened the box and took a look at the filter I was a little surprised to see that it was actually a Wix Filter.  Anyway, I took the filter off the car and took out the old filter.  Then I put the new filter in along with the new rubber gaskets and put the filter back on the car.  It was a pretty messy job – gasoline everywhere.  My wife will definitely complain that I smell when I get into our bed tonight.  I’ll just tell her it’s a new colonge that I’m trying out – Eau de 110 Octane!

I’m thinking of doing a gallons per hour test tomorrow morning with my current fuel pump – see where it is at now.  Then later, when I change out the fuel pump to another one I’ll be able to repeat the test and compare.

Voila! 1/4″ NPT Threads Tapped!

My first time at tapping threads.  I enjoyed it, and it came out great!  I added a hose end plug to the carburetor spacer so that I have a place to hook up a vacuum gauge to.  The vacuum gauge is used for setting the four corner idle mixture screws.  The only thing left to do with regards to this is to order a 1/4" NPT Allen Head Plug which will go in place of that hose end plug when I’m not setting the idle mixture screws.  Here are some pictures, and check out the last one… looks good!

Evil Carburetor Look

Tah-dah!  I will be putting on the metering blocks and bowls tonight to see how it looks.  They are silver (bare aluminum) so it should look really good with the black main body.  I used high temperature engine paint, semi-gloss black.

Carb Main Body Guessing Game

Guess what I am going to do tomorrow morning to the carburetor main body…
