4.10 Strange Gears
Sep 20th
I got the car back last Monday – it now sports 4.10 Strange gears in the rear end. So far there are no leaks or anything like that, so I am happy about that. Unfortunately Nate didn’t tie down the car properly for the return trip to my house and one of the straps ended up coming loose. The axle strap is lost and the tie down strap is most likely not safe to use again. He said he’d get me a new axle strap but I haven’t gotten it yet.
Some pictures – the first one is of the box for the new Strange gears, then inside the box is the old 4.86 gears that were in the car. The next two are of the tie down strap that got loose.
I am in negotiations with someone right now about getting a fuel pump and fuel filters in return for some work that I can do for him. We’ll see how that goes! I am hoping to get them soon so I can move on with getting my car set up for the next season of ADRA.
Arizona Differential Specialists
Sep 11th
Nate of Arizona Differential Specialists has taken possession of the Duster. I am having him swap out the existing 4.86 gear with a Strange 4.10 gear. I should have the car back on Saturday if all goes well.
Tach Mounted
Sep 8th
I’ve got the new tachometer mounted properly and the shift light hooked up. I’m not really done with the mounting of the shift light – I need to cut out a couple of plates from left over sheet metal and use that to mount the shift light on the dash. Right now it’s just a couple of bolts straight through the vinyl & foam. Here is a video of the tachometer running.
And here is a picture of what it looks like at night time with the lit numbers and needle!
New Tachometer Works!
Sep 6th
I quickly wired up the new tachometer that I got to replace the defective one that I sent back. I basically wired up the new tachometer while it was still in the box because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of mounting it and properly routing the wires if it wasn’t going to work anyway. But lo and behold, it did work! So later on today I will clean up all the wiring and mount the tachometer somewhere. But until then, here is a video of it working.
Note the illuminated needle and numbers – that will look really nice at night time!
Replacement Tachometer Arrived
Sep 2nd
The replacement tachometer that I ordered from Summit Racing arrived while I was out on vacation last week. This is a much more expensive tachometer and is eligible for contingency awards. The reason I got this tachometer is because it has a lit needle – that will make it much easier to see where the RPM is when playing videos back. I will be putting this tachometer in after Arizona Differential Specialists changes out the rear end gear – hopefully this one is not defective!
