Painting the Hood

Yesterday I painted the hood using spray paint.  The color I used was satin black.  Unfortunately today after giving it some time to dry, it doesn’t look good.  The paint went on quite unevenly – perhaps because it is satin and not flat it’s much harder to make it look even using spray cans.  I think I’m going to have to strip the thing and take it to Maaco to do the job right.  I was hoping it would be done today so I could try putting on the new "340 Wedge" decal on it that I got from the Phoenix Graphix guys.

Here are some pictures:

Restraints Are Good

I got home from work a little earlier than usual today so I decided to work on the car a little bit. I figured that the easiest thing to do alone today would be to install the 5 point seat harness. It’s just a matter of installing some bolts, nuts, and washers. Here’s a picture of the result!

Stripes Are Cool

I’ve gone ahead and ordered some stripes from Phoenix Graphix , a local company that specializes in these things. I’ve gotten the "1971-72" stripes instead of the "1973-74" stripes because they look way cooler. I also ordered the 1971 340 wedge hood decal. Here’s a picture of the stripes – note that I got mine in black instead of white since my car is Lime Light green – a much lighter color than the Plum Crazy purple shown in the picture below.

Too Many Birthday Parties

It’s been two long and busy weeks of not working on the car.  I’ve been mainly going to birthday parties that we’ve been invited to – seems like they’re all bunched up in May and June.  Work on the car should start picking up again pretty soon!

Today after having a birthday party for my own boys, I will be heading out to SoundWerks on Bell Road to have them install a power line from the battery to the rear of the truck for the winch.  Actually I visited them last Saturday for that, but apparently they don’t stock 2 gauge wire and it had to be special ordered.
