Day 2 Ready To Go

I’ve got all the parts I need to start "Day 2" of getting this car ready to race. When will Day 2 be? It will be whenever Jerad can come over to help me out. In the pictures below you’ll notice that I took a picture of the boxes just as UPS (United Parcel Smashers) have left them. Note the box in the middle clearly has the this-side-up arrows marked on it… and yet the box is on its side. This is the box with the tranny fluid, brake fluid, and engine oil. Nice. And note how beat up it is. Fortunately everything inside was in good shape, probably due to the exorbiant amount of air padding that Summit Racing put in the box. The TCI Deep Transmission Pan and RCI Racing Jacket will arrive tomorrow via FedEx.

I also took a picture of a book I had but totally forgot to mention in this blog. This book helped me to really understand the fuel system and how the engine works as far as fuel goes. I highly recommend this book to everyone (not just Holley carbuetor owners).

I should also mention that I registered www.HerboldRacing.com and it is currently pointing to this site. I decided to register that domain name because its easier for people to remember and that is what I am going to put on the Duster before I take it to the track.

Today, I also went to Sears and bought a Craftsman beam type torque wrench. This one has a lifetime warranty – do not get the click type from Sears… it’s only got a short warranty. Then I headed on over to Home Depot and got a Husky click type torque wrench. That one does have a lifetime warranty. I intend to use the beam type for the lower inch pound requirements, and the click type for the higher ones.

Be Gone, O Grey One! Part Trois.

Now everything front-grille-related is back on the car. Here is a picture of it. I think it looks great.

More Summit Racing Parts

While Jerad and I worked on the car last Saturday, we came up with a list of more parts we need to finish getting the car race-ready.  Then on Sunday I ordered those parts.  Here is a list of the parts I ordered:

Generic Tire Covers (for the trailer) (MDS-AO-9004)
RCI Transmission Blanket (RCI-7808A)
RCI Blue Driving Jacket (RCI-9636C)
Royal Purple XPR Racing 20W50 Motor Oil (RPO-RP01051)
90 Degree -8 AN Hose End Fitting (SUM-220887)
Summit Floor Creepers – Pair (SUM-CSUM219)
Summit Creeper Seats – Pair (SUM-CSUM226)
Tip Over Valve -8 AN Fitting (SUM-G3114)
Summit Tank Kit (yes another one) (SUM-TANKKIT1)
TCI Deep Transmission Pan (TCI-128001)
TCI Transmission Fluid (TCI-950600)
Wilwood Hi-Temp Dot 3 Brake Fluid (WIL-290-2210)

I may end up having to order more of the tranny fluid and engine oil – I don’t think I got enough. Most of these will arrive today, and the rest of them will arrive tomorrow.

Be Gone, O Gray One! Part Deux.

I added on the second coat of flat black this morning. I need to head out to work in a few minutes but I thought I’d put it on the car to see how it looks. Wow. What a difference. I’m loving it. I’ve included a picture of the old grille on front of the car for comparision. I used hi-po on the plymouth logo bezel that is on top of the grille. I have not polished the headlight bezels yet, and the plastic turn signal lens are not back on yet. I need to also polish the front bumpers to match.

Be Gone, O Gray One!

Every body part on the car is a beautiful lime green, flat black, or chrome. Every single piece. Every frickin’ piece except one… the front grille. The front grille, for whatever reasons the powers-that-be decided, is drab gray. It looks out of place and not very stylish.

Well, I took care of that today.

I took off the grille, removed all the chrome and lens pieces, and sprayed the thing flat black. Well, I cleaned it up first, then sprayed it black. Actually, first I used superglue to fix a crack I found when I removed it, and then I sprayed it black. And boy, is it black now. I’ve only done the first coat, I’ll give it a nice second coat before I head out to work tomorrow morning. I can’t wait to see what it looks like on the car.

Only downside to all of this is that I’ll have to update the banner image on top of the home page of this web site.

Pictures, of course:
