A Few More Parts Discovered

While I was under the car taking pictures of the transmission fluid leak, I discovered a few parts of the car that I haven’t seen before. The first part I saw was something in between the transmission and the engine. It looks like it has teeth of some sort but I don’t think this is a moving part. Perhaps someone can identify it for me. The other interesting part I discovered were the front shocks – drag race only shocks that are adjustible in some fashion.

Update: The picture on the left is of the starter gear. It is a moving part and it is welded directly to the torque converter. The picture on the right is Competition Engineering’s 3-Way Adjustible Drag Shocks. The front shocks are adjustible in three ratios: 90/10, 80/20 and 60/40.

Transmission Fluid Leak

I found a tiny puddle of transmission fluid under the car on the floor. Looks like I have a small leak coming from the transmission pan – through one of the bolts. That will get me booted from the drag strip. Just something else I need to fix before I bring the car to the strip for the first time.

Back From GDC

I am back from GDC. Another package has arrived for me – this time it is the 1:18 scale die cast model of a 1971 Plymouth Duster 340. As soon as I opened the box I knew that the seller was wrong about the color of the car. This is definitely a sherwood green car, not a lime light green car! But in any case I am still happy with the purchase. I’ll be bringing it to work on Monday. Here’s the die cast Duster sitting on top of the real Duster.

Factory Service Manuals and Engine Building Books

The engine building books that I ordered from Amazon has arrived, as well as the factory service manuals that I won on Ebay. They got here just in time, I am leaving for GDC (Game Developers Conference) tonight. I will be back from GDC on Friday night. The books should give me hours of reading fun on the flights to and from San Francisco.

It Lives!

After two failed attempts to get the car running, I decided to take a MoPowerStyle forum member’s advice and applied the “nervous foot” technique.  And boy, did that work!  So here is the video showing the car running…

I quickly got out of the car and closed the garage door, just in case a neighbor called the cops. That thing is loud as hell.
