Shiny New Truck
Jan 26th
After dropping off the trailer, I hopped into my car which is a year 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. The passenger side window promptly opened up by itself. Using the power window switch to try and close it did not work – I could feel the motor running, but no window movement. This is the fifth time the windows broke on me between the two GM cars I owned. I’ve had enough and took this as a sign from above to dump this car.
After doing some reseach on the internet, I decided to head on over to a Ford dealership to look at some trucks. I came back home in a brand spanking new 2008 Ford F150 Super Crew XLT with the 5.4L Triton V8 engine and 3.73:1 rear axle. This baby has a towing capacity of 9,500 pounds and a maximum GCWR of 15,000 pounds. Of course my wife knew nothing of this and was in for a bit of a shock when she got home.
One of my sons, Xavier was pretty upset about the truck… until he discovered it was blue. Now it’s his most favorite ride on four wheels. Kids.
And of course, a picture:
Shiny New Trailer
Jan 26th
After watching my kids play soccer in the morning, my dad and I went over to Deer Valley Trailer to pick up the trailer that I put a deposit on last Saturday. This is an 18 foot trailer, with an 83 inch wide deck. It has a dovetailed rear end and electric brakes on one axle. I also had them put on a tool box up front on the tongue – this tool box holds two fuel jugs (5 gallons each I think) with space for some other stuff. We used my dad’s Toyota 4Runner to pull the trailer back to my uncle’s place where we parked it.
The ride in the 4Runner was eye-opening. I have serious doubts about the ability of the 4Runner to tow a 5,000 pound load. The trailer was empty and I estimate it’s weight to be less than 1,500 pounds… and yet the 4Runner made some really obscene groaning and popping noises the whole way home. I think if I put a car on the trailer the 4Runner would fall apart in short order.
I totally forgot to bring a camera with me, so there are no pictures of it today. The next time I see the trailer (probably next Saturday) I will be sure to remember to bring my camera with me!
Note from Amazon

I got an email from Amazon today saying they shipped the final book that I ordered. I still need to order a few more – especially books about the chassis if I can find them.
